Beginning with the Carter Family back in the early 1900’s, bluegrass and roots music has had a distinctly down home approach to musical style as seen in this depiction of the Carter Family. Their simple approach has continued and influenced the performers of "modern/ 2011" American roots Music, as demonstrated by contemporary Bluegrass fiddlers like Ella Naiman.

Bring back the bluegrass, but don't forget the skirts, I love LOVE the feminine style and spunk! Red is always the right way to go, Ella is on top of it 100%!

Within the festival circuit, Cornmeal is a prominent band with a new approach to Bluegrass and American roots music. The crossing of influences are reflected in their style on stage through Allie Kral who easily maintains her rockin' boots while not necessarily adhering to the early style of “table cloth” skirt and top.
